The 1995 harvest, in the words of one seasoned grower, was diabolical, potentially the worst Marlborough had ever seen.
Now 22 years later, facing another wet harvest and the spread of the fungal disease botrytis, memories of that nightmare vintage have resurfaced.

"We had a very wet spring and then cool temperatures early on in summer so that sort of confused the vines a bit," she said.
"Early on, growth was behind what it should be.

Southern harvest's high yields, high quality
At Pooley Wines in the Coal Valley region near Hobart an above-average yield is expected.
Viticulturalist Matt Pooley said both his yields and quality were high.
"Being in the Coal Valley, the climate down here is quite a lot drier and we don't experience those really high, humid conditions," he said.
